Key responsibilities of the candidate

The candidate will be responsible for helping the students with Deafblindness participate fully in their educational environment. They will provide communication support and help with the classroom learning process. The candidate will be responsible for encouraging interactions with the teachers and classmates. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining the privacy of each student. They will also help with managing the personal safety and the education of the student. They will look after the daily needs of the student. The candidate will work closely with the different professionals and implement the support strategies. The candidate will use communication methods like American sign language. They will also use other specialized techniques to meet the needs of the students.

Professional qualifications of the candidate

The candidate should have a Secondary School diploma and a diploma of Intervenor for Deafblind, Support Specialist certification. The candidate should also have certification in first aid and CPR. You have a certificate in a behaviour management system or an equivalent behaviour support programme. If the candidate has extra education in professional child development or special education, it will be valuable during the hiring process.

Experience needed for the position

The candidate should have previous experience working with children and youth who are impaired or have developmental disabilities. The candidate should have experience in helping students with education or in a childcare environment. The candidate should be familiar with communication methods and classroom support for the children. The candidate should also have behavioural management and collaborative planning. The candidate should have practical experience using American sign language or adaptive educational techniques.

The candidate should be fluent in American Sign Language. They should have knowledge of large print communication methods. A candidate should have an understanding of child development. They should have good communication skills. They should have good interpersonal skills. The candidate should know how to use picture symbols and to handle manual touch cues.
