Driver/Operator – Road Maintenance II

Job Description

Parks Canada is looking to hire a Driver/ Operator for Road Maintenance II (GL- MDO- 06) for its Cape Brenton Highlands National Park. The job location will be Ingonish Beach, Nova Scotia, Canada. The selected candidates will maintain roads and infrastructure and ensure public safety.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidates will be responsible for operating the heavy commercial equipment like dump truck, excavators and snowploughs. They will perform a routine inspection of the roads. The candidates will clear the debris. They will repair the minor faults in the operating vehicles. The candidates will perform general labour tasks. They will keep the records safely. The candidates will be following the instructions given by the supervisor.

Education:

The candidate should have a valid Class 3 Nova Scotia Driver’s license with an air brake endorsement. They should have a clean driving record. They should be proficient in the English language.

Experience:

The candidates should have experience in operating commercial and heavy equipment. They should be experienced in repairing mechanical issues. They should have operated the road graders before or willing to learn how to operate.

Skills and Competencies:

The candidates should have good mechanical aptitude. They should be good at problem solving. The candidates should be able to do manual labour for long hours. They should be accountable. They should have good decision making skills. They should follow safe work practices. The candidates should have good teamwork skills.

Benefits:

The selected candidates will get a salary of $28.82–$31.31 on per hour basis. There will be opportunity for training and long term employment. The candidates will get a pension plan.
