Laboratory Support Technician – Inventory

Job Description

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Plant Health Division, is looking to hire candidates for the role of Laboratory Support Technician (Inventory). The job location will be Charlottetown Laboratory, Prince Edward Island. This is an onsite and full-time position. The selected candidate will take care of laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidates will be responsible for receiving and preparing a wide range of plant health specimens according to laboratory protocols. They perform analytical and technical procedures in the laboratory. They will operate and maintain the laboratory equipment like microscopes, balances and centrifuges. The candidates will record and manage the data using spreadsheets and laboratory software. They will support their colleagues and supervisors in day to day work.

Required Qualifications:

The candidates should have a post-secondary diploma in natural or applied science from a recognized institution or a combination of education and relevant experience. A proficiency in English is required. They should have worked in a laboratory environment.

Experience Needed:

The candidates should have experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. They should have experience in handling samples using the protocols. They should have experience working with biohazard materials. They should have previously worked with equipment like microscopes and centrifuges.

Skills and Competencies:

The candidates should have strong communication skills. They should be a team player. They should have attention to details. They should have knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. They should have an understanding of laboratory safety procedures and quality assurance practices.

 Benefits

The candidates will get a salary of $58,902 – $74,530 on per year basis. They will get benefits like health, dental and pension benefits.
