Job Description

The Canadian Coast Guard Atlantic Region is looking to hire dedicated candidates for the position of Marine Engineering Officer. The job location will be at various locations under the Department of National Defence (DND). The candidates are required to have a valid Transport Canada STCW Certificate of Competency, 4th Class, Marine Engineering Certificate or higher. The selected candidates will get a salary of $ 41.01 – $ 58.88, depending on their experience and certifications. The last day to apply for this position is March 31, 2027. 

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible to supervise and manage the Engine room team and resources. They will direct the operations and do repair of propulsion systems. They will provide advice to the vessel team. They will participate in emergency drills like search and rescue. They will ensure compliance with coastal guard safety standards. 

Required Qualifications:

The candidate should have a valid Transport Canada STCW Marine Engineering certificate in 4th class or higher. They should be eligible to get a secret security clearance. They should have a valid Health Canada Medical. They should have a Canadian passport. The candidates should be willing to work at sea. 

Experience Needed:

The candidates should have experience in supervising the shipboard team. They should have experience in Marine operations. If the candidates have Marine Engineering experience, that would be considered an asset. 

Skills and Competencies:

The candidate should have good communication skills. The candidate should be dependable. They should have good leadership skills. They should be good at planning and organising.
